    Gameplay

    • Watch Dogs is an action-adventure stealth video game in which players control a man named

    • Aiden Pearce (voiced by Noam Jenkins), who can hack into various electronic devices tied to the city's central

    • operating system (ctOS), allowing various methods for the player to solve numerous objectives. Examples include hacking into people's phones to retrieve bank data and steal funds, triggering malfunctions in

    • equipment to distract other characters and hacking into traffic lights to cause collisions. Players can also receive information on civilians via augmented reality feeds, providing the player with information on demographics, health and potential behaviour. Objectives showcased in presentations include finding specific targets to kill, evading the police and following potential victims in order to stop their would-be killers. Combat utilizes a combination of stealth components and parkour, along with the mechanics of a cover-based third-person shooter. The game features an elusive online multiplayer element in which another player can control surveillance cameras in an attempt to hack the main player

Retail editions

On April 29, 2013, Ubisoft announced four collectors editions of Watch Dogs, The DEDSEC, VIGILANTE, Uplay and Special editions.

Plot

The storyline of Watch Dogs game is built around the concept of information warfare, data being interconnected, and the world's increasing use of technology—questioning who exactly runs the computers they depend on. The game is set in an alternate reality version of Chicago, Illinois, which is one of many cities to feature asupercomputer known as a "CtOS" (Central Operating System). The system controls almost every piece of technology in the city, and contains information on all of the city's residents and activities which can be used for various purposes. In the game's universe, the Northeast blackout of 2003 was found to be caused by a hacker, prompting the development of CtOS. The game will follow an antihero named Aiden Pearce, a highly skilled hacker described as a person who uses both "fists and wits."The gameplay demo shown at E3 depicted Aiden's attempt to assassinate a media mogul named Joseph DeMarco, who had been wrongly acquitted on charges of
murder.

While it may look like a Dreamworks production, rest assured that Knack was built from the ground-up to be an accessible PlayStation 4 title. Revealed today at the PlayStation Meeting and directed by the PS4′s Lead Architect, veteran designer supervisor Mark Cerny, Knack tells the tale of a robot designed to fend off an invading horde of goblins.

Knack is a very versatile robot who is able to pick up particles from around the environment and form himself into different bodies, though his face and central energy sphere remain consistent through his various forms. He is able to quickly disconnect all these particles – letting gravity drop them down and scatter the pieces – at any time, so that his smaller body may proceed through tinier areas. The reveal of Knack came just after Cerny gave an example of the PS4′s ability to handle large quantities of particles, indicating that Knack may have initially been born as a tech demo of sorts (remember Milo, anyone?)

Saying Mark Cerny is a veteran game designer would almost be an understatement, as he’s responsible for bringing several staple fan-favorites to PlayStation fans. With a resume that includes games like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon, only time will tell if Knack will be as memorable as Cerny’s previous work.

Utilizing Dreamworks-esque cartoon graphics, the gameplay keeps things relatively simple and light-hearted. Knack looks like it will be throwing players through action and stealth sequences with simple punch-based combat. It hasn’t been revealed why the goblins are invading, but anybody bringing tanks into your territory must mean business.

Knack is evidently a title suitable for all ages, and would make a logical launch title to appeal to families with younger gamers. Though no release date has been announced, it wouldn’t be surprising to see it launch alongside the new console – after all, it was the first PlayStation 4 game ever revealed.

What do you think of Knack, Ranters? Is it a viable game option, or does it warrant a pass?

Knack is currently in development for PlayStation 4.
